Strings & Things
String & Things was formed in 1983 when Ola Hanson was invited to perform at the jazz section of the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC. They have been together since.
Ola, on violin and trombone, is an original member of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, which has been together for over thirty years. Ola also heads his own Dixieland band, St. James Inferno.
Guitarist Tom Carroll coordinates the Jazz Studies Program at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Tom and Hank Marr co-lead the group Organic Chemistry. Tom has also performed with many local groups in the Columbus area over the past twenty years, along with a number of national groups. In 1999 Tom and bassist Terry Douds formed their own recording label, Cojazz Recordings, Ltd.
Bassist Terry Douds has been performing since 1973. In 1980 Terry began a long relationship with the Carmen Cavallaro Trio, which he maintained until Carmen's death in 1989. Over the years Terry has worked with the Glenn Miller and Woody Herman Orchestras, The Ink Spots, and with many local groups.
