With his second album release, “Solidarity,” Cleveland-born, Juilliard-trained drummer/composer Jerome Jennings explores resistance and resilience through the prisms of Black Lives Matter, #MeToo, and LGBTQ rights. There are musical homages to activists and freedom fighters such as Audra Lorde, Marsha P. Johnson, Marielle Franco, Recy Taylor and more in this deeply affecting evening of new jazz.
This highly anticipated concert has been postponed and will be rescheduled in spring of 2021 as a part of this season’s PBJ & Jazz lineup. Byron Stripling and the Columbus Jazz Orchestra conclude the season with veteran vocalist Phil Clark and rising jazz singers Rachel Azbell and Sydney McSweeney performing a hit parade of tunes from America’s greatest songwriters.
This original production curated by Columbus Jazz Orchestra saxophonist Pete Mills, celebrates the centennial of saxophone great Charlie Parker and his impact on jazz today. Rising star saxophonist Alexa Tarantino is joined by members of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra saxophone section, a string ensemble and an all-star rhythm section. Included in the concert is music from the classic Grammy Hall of Fame recording, “Charlie Parker with Strings.”
A staple of the PBJ & Jazz series, NBBB brings you the sound of New Orleans mixed with funk and soul like no other band in town! From their iconic “Diddies for Kiddies” album, to unique renditions of jazz favorites, every song they play is full of energy and excitement.
Jazz and The Struggle for Freedom is a concert with conversation presented by PNC Arts Alive and the Jazz Arts Group. Columbus Jazz Orchestra Artistic Director Byron Stripling will lead a top-flight rhythm section and singers, as well as a conversation with Michelle Alexander.
